The Bermuda Triangle, also referred to as the Devil’s Triangle, has long been the subject of fascination and intrigue for many. The Bermuda Triangle, the existence of which is not recognized by the US Navy or the US Board on Geographic Names, is a loosely defined area where a number of ships and aircraftshave disappeared. We can thank pop culture for giving attention to possible extraterrestrials and paranormal activity in this region but there have also been many reports and incidents which have brought a lot of attention to this area. According to documented evidence, a significant percentage of the reported incidents were either embellished later on or inaccurately reported in the first place. In 2013, a study was conducted by the World Wide Fund for Nature to identify the 10 Most Dangerous Waters for Shipping. Despite the many claims of lost ships and even airplanes, The Bermuda Triangle did not make the list.
The Bermuda Triangle area is actually a high traffic shipping as well as a heavy fly route for both private and commercial aircrafts. The earliest unusual disappearances were the loss of several ships and planes including five US Navy TBM Avenger bombers called Flight 19. This disappearance was first uncovered by the Miami Herald in 1950 and later by the American Legion Magazine in 1962. In 1964, an article which appeared in Agrosy, dubbed the area ‘The Deadly Bermuda Triangle’ and claimed that the disappearance of Flight 19 and other disappearances were a result of strange activity.
