The flood and landslide have caused damages to as many as 14 schools in Parbat district.The continuous rain triggered flood and landslide has completely damaged seven schools whereas seven schools have sustain damages due to windstorm in the district, according to the District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee, Parbat.Schools damaged completely are Mahendrodaya Primary School at Kurgha, Jana Jagaran Primary School at Phalamkhani, Samaj Kalyan Primary School at Maajhfaant, Sramik Primary School at Maldhuga and Shivalaya Higher Secondary Schoo, Aguwa Recourses Centre at Kushma and Krishna Dharma Higher Secondary School at Dhairing. -

The main opposition party CPN-UML on Friday warned the government not to withdraw any case against those involved in a violent police-protestor clash in Tikapur of Kailali district last year, in which eight security personnel and a child were killed.

Amid speculations and media reports that the government was preparing to withdraw the cases against those being tried for their involvement in the carnage so as to appease Madhes-centric parties, the main opposition today said such a withdrawal would be against the Constitution, rule of law and democratic norms and values.The ongoing Central Committee of the party endorsed a special proposal to make the decision today, party’s Secretary and Chief of the Publicity Department, Yogesh Bhattarai, informed in a statement this evening.

A Russian mechanised infantry unit arrived in Pakistan on Friday for the first military exercise between the two Cold War rivals, with reports suggesting part of the high altitude drill would be conducted in territory claimed by India. Lt Gen Asim Bajwa, head of the Pakistani military’s media arm, tweeted photos of the Russian troops after they flew into an airbase in Rawalpindi, squelching speculation that Moscow would call off the wargame in the wake of the terror attack on an Indian Army camp in Uri . “A contingent of Russian ground forces arrived in Pakistan for first ever Pak- Russian joint exercise (two weeks) from September 24 to October 10,” Bajwa said. The Russian contingent was warmly welcomed by senior Pakistan Army officials before it left for the training venue. KATHMANDU: A Yeti Airlines plane overshot the runway of Bhairahawa Airport on Saturday afternoon while landing. All passengers of the aircraft, however, are said to be safe.

An official at the Gautam Buddha (Bhairahawa) Airport told THT Online on the condition of anonymity that all passengers and crew members aboard the plane are safe.

There were 29 passengers and three crew members aboard the plane are safe, according to the Yeti Airlines.

The private airliner said technicians have been sent from Kathmandu for the needful maintenance.

The plane had left the Tribhuvan International Airport of Kathmandu on its regular flight this afternoon. It had overshot the runway and reached a grassland while landing at around 5:00 pm today.

Authorities in Indian-controlled Kashmir have charged a leading human rights activist under a controversial security law, immediately taking him back into custody after a local court had ordered him freed from police detention.

Police on Thursday said that Khurram Parvez was formally booked on Wednesday night under the Public Safety Act that allows detention for up to six months without a trial.

Police gave no other details.

The arrest comes amid the largest protests against Indian rule in Kashmir in recent years, sparked by the July 8 killing of a popular rebel commander by Indian soldiers. The protests, and a sweeping military crackdown, have all but paralysed life in Indian-controlled Kashmir. More than 80 people have been killed in the protests.

Passengers have revealed their terror after an aeroplane carrying 230 people was forced into an emergency landing at an airport following a catastrophic equipment failure.
The pilot was forced to bring the Boeing 767 in to land at Warsaw airport with no wheels after all its landing gear failed. The aircraft skidded along the tarmac on its belly, sparks flying, and a fire broke out in the starboard engine before it came to a halt.
Incredibly nobody on the flight, which came from Newark, New Jersey, was injured but after disembarking passengers spoke of their alarm.
‘I was praying for the pilot not to lose control because we started to make circles over the airport. It was terrible,’ said passenger Teresa Kowalik.We owe everything to the pilot. He really did a great job.’
The pilot told passengers four hours into the flight that the plane faced technical problems said a passenger who only gave her first name, Malgorzata.

Unemployment in the Himalayan nation is high and many families, to survive, end up selling their daughters to traffickers who force the latter into prostitution. With promises of US$ 40-55 a month, traffickers induce parents to hand over their children. Brothel owners pay them US$ 40-65 a month.”In remote villages, more and more families are forced to sell their youngest daughters in exchange of a monthly payment,” said Parbati Budathoki, a former prostitute in Surkhet District (northern Nepal), told AsiaNews.”Most of the victims are used by their parents or blood relatives as a source of income,” the 19-year-old explained. She herself was sold to a brothel in Delhi (India) when she was only 16 for 15,000 rupees (US$ 280).”In Delhi, I received up to 25 customers a day,” she remembers. “If I did not work, my masters would beat me, burn me with cigarettes. The same would happen to other young women.”

Indications that the Indian Special Forces struck across LoC came in the form of Pakistan declaring a no-fly zone over PoK on 20 September night.

In yet another fatal accident, a woman died on the spot when a Nepal Oil Corporation tanker rammed a motorbike from behind at Tinkune, Kathmandu on Tuesday evening.

The tanker (Na 2 Kha 2735) heading towards Baneshwor hit a motorcycle (Ba 52 Pa 5824) moving in the same direction at Tinkune, killing the woman and injuring her husband. She was riding pillion on her husband’s bike.

The deceased has been identified as Heera Lama of Kavre district. Her husband is Ganesh Lama.

Former Minister for General Administration Lal Babu Pandit has said that nearly 1,100 senior government officials are found to have been holding permanent resident status of foreign countries or green cards.

Speaking at an interaction programme organised by the Reporter’s Club in the Capital on Sunday, Minister Pandit said the government has been working to prepare the list of officials having such documents. He informed that the ministry has been collecting names of Nepalis who have acquired Permanent Residency (PR) in foreign countries through Nepali embassies in the concerned countries.
