The District Public Health Officer Madhusudan Koirala informed that blood tests showed that 162 out of 400 persons have contracted the disease since April. A woman and her boyfriend were hanging out on the Devonshire Bridge when they decided to throw her 4-year-old child off into the river below for fun. The bridge, which stands over the Wynoochee River, is a common spot for young people to jump off during the hot summer days. A few teens were hanging out at the bottom of the rocks, when they noticed some strange commotion atop the bridge and began recording. A lightning strike in Norway has killed more than 300 reindeer, according to reports from local media. In a press release published Sunday, the Norwegian Environment Agency said that 70 of the dead reindeer were calves. Officials believe that the animals were killed by lightning during a heavy thunderstorm, marking what could be the deadliest lightning strike in history.”We’ve heard about animals being struck by lightning and killed, but I don’t remember hearing about lightning killing animals on this scale before,” NNI spokesman Knut Nylend tells NTB. “We don’t know if it was one or more lighting strike; that would only be speculation.”Nylend discovered the animals in a remote part of a private hunting area, and NIN employees have been dispatched to the region to take samples from the reindeer. Hardangervidda national park is home to an estimated 10,000 wild reindeer that migrate across the region every year. Nylend speculates that the reindeer may have been killed because they are often close to one another, and “they may have gathered even closer together out of fear” during the thunderstorm.As BNO News notes, the deadliest lightning strike involving livestock occurred in 2005, when 68 cows were killed in Australia, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Odisha government attempts to sweep the issue of Kalahandi tribal Dana Majhi carrying his wife’s corpse under carpet, Bahrain Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has reportedly extended financial help to the family drowned in grief. “His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa read about the man, who carried his wife’s body for 12 km after the hospital where she died allegedly failed to provide an ambulance for her to be sent back to their village,” the Gulf Daily News reported on Sunday. “The Gulf Daily News learned exclusively yesterday that the Premier was so upset by the news that he felt he had to do something to help. He could not just stand by and do nothing about such suffering. The Prime Minister’s office contacted Bahrain’s Indian Embassy, and, in an extraordinary humanitarian gesture has donated a sum of money to help the man and his family,” the daily said. The report did not mention about the sum. One Bahraini Dinar equals Rs 178 Indian Rupee. Some readers of The Indian Express too have expressed their desire to donate money for Majhi’s family.

Nepal Police data shows that road accidents have been claiming 2,000 to 2,500 lives annually in Nepal. Chief of Metropolitan Traffic Police Division Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prakash Aryal has made the revelation. While speaking at a meeting of the parliament’s Good Governance and Monitoring Committee on Monday he also mentioned that existing laws and regulations are fueling the road accidents. According to him, only stern legal action against reckless drivers can help reduce number of road accidents as weak laws were behind the increased road accidents in the country. Though, he did not mentioned in the meeting, syndicates of the transport entrepreneurs and their associations in the public transport sector has not only fuelling on the accidents but also compelling the people to pay high amounts to get the service. While indicating so by DIG Aryal in the committee meeting, not only the lawmakers but also the top-government officials were there but no one had made commitment to formulate the law or to implement the excising laws effectively to reduce the increasing road accidents.

After Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) slashed the prices of petroleum products this week, the Department of Transportation Management (DoTM) is set to reduce the transportation fare within a week. The NOC reviewed the fuel prices on Monday as their prices fell in the international market. The national oil monopoly has reduced Rs 5 per litre in petrol and Rs 6 per litre in diesel and kerosene. As per the new revised rate, petrol now costs Rs 99 per litre, and diesel and kerosene cost Rs 75 per litre. DoTM Director Basanta Adhikari said a ministerial level decision is on the way to adjust the transportation fare. “This time the fare will adjusted more scientifically,” he said. “Even the travel fare for long route will be lowered.”

Human traffickers have been using the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal as a new route for trafficking Nepali women abroad. Nepali folk singer and musician Khem Raj Gurung, who was best known for his hit song “Wari Jamuna Pari Jamuna,” died on Thursday at Medicare National Hospital and Research Centre, Chabahil. He was 42.His death was confirmed by his family members. According to Ratna Gurung, Khem Raj’s cousin, the singer died on Thursday at the hospital due to complications caused by jaundice.Khem Raj, a liver patient, was admitted to the hospital ten days ago after symptoms of jaundice appeared in his body. He was admitted at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital after his health condition deteriorated.
