The Nepali Congress parliamentary party has concluded that the number of village governance unit should be increased. Most of the lawmakers speaking during the meeting held on Tuesday stressed on augmenting the number of village bodies, said Chief Whip of the NC Parliamentary Party, Chinkaji Shrestha. The lawmakers were of the view that if the existing area (ilaka) were changed into the village governance unit, it would not invite disputes on delineation, its centre, and the service centres. "Currently, there are 927 areas, while the areas containing only VDCs are some 800, so augmented village governance unit was practical," added Shrestha. Chief of the local body delineation commission, Bal Chandra Poudel, informed the meeting about the delineation process in the local governance units. The lawmakers put forth queries to him.
